How we rank companies
Every company on America's Best Home Services™ earns a ranking score from 0 to 100. We publish the exact method below so the order is something you can trust. Placement is never for sale.
What goes into the score today
Which signals count depends on your area, so both weightings are published below. Each signal is weighted, then combined and normalized to a 0 to 100 score for the area you searched.
Most areas
Where we do not have verified customer ratings, ratings play no part in the order.
- Profile completeness50%
How complete the listing is: phone, website, address, hours, and a description.
- Proximity30%
How close the business is to the center of the searched area, measured as real distance.
- Category fit20%
Whether the service is the business's primary trade or a secondary one.
Areas with verified ratings
Where we have verified customer ratings, the rating leads and profile completeness drops out of the score entirely.
- Review rating40%
The company's average customer rating. Ratings we show come from Google and are labeled as such.
- Review volume30%
How many reviews back that rating, so a single five-star review does not outrank a long track record.
- Proximity20%
How close the business is to the center of the searched area, measured as real distance.
- Category fit10%
Whether the service is the business's primary trade or a secondary one.
Where the ratings come from
Ratings we show come from Google and are labeled "Reviews by source: Google." We show the rating and the number of reviews only, never the review text. No company can pay to rank higher.
Claiming a listing
Business owners can claim their listing to keep its details accurate. Claiming is free and does not change a company's ranking score.
